2017 Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Forecast

My American friend told me,

In Japan you have Sakura (Cherry Blossom) forecast, just like it’s weather news. Just how much do people love Sakura here!?

The bloom of cherries, after a long cold winter. Just as we thought they finally bloomed, they would start to fall in an instant. Momentary excellence of spring.

Not to miss these short-lived Sakura, you must check these sakura forecast of 2017!

This is a bloom forecast of places known for Sakura. (Apologize it’s in Japanese)

From top to bottom,

Goryokaku Park in Hokkaido, APR 27

Hirosaki Park in Aomori, APR 22

Shiroishi Riverside in Miyagi, APR 5

Takato Joshi Park in Nagano, APR 9

Asama Shrine in Shizuoka, MAR 22

Tsurumai Park in Aichi, MAR 26

Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto, MAR 30

Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, MAR 26

Kochi Park in Kochi, MAR 22

Maiduru Park in Fukuoka, MAR 22

Kumamoto Castle in Kumamoto, MAR 22

Among these, Hirosaki Park in Aomori and Takato Joshi Park in Nagano are 2 of 3 most famous places for Sakura in Japan. The other one is Yoshino Mountain in Nara, which is not on this map. Sakura in lower Yoshino Mt. is said to start to bloom on April 8th. Sakura in higher Yoshino Mt. is expected to be seen until April 20th.

To sum it up, around southern island of Kyushu and places in Pacific Ocean side, blooming star from March 22nd, around Kansai area in the end of March, Northern Japan in the beginning of April, Aomori and Hokkaido island in latter half of April.

In this year there were a lot of snow in eastern and western Japan, and the average temperature is below last year. Therefore, Sakura is expected to bloom later than usual. On the other hand, in northern Japan, it is expected to bloom just as usual time of year, or may be even sooner.

This is based on rough prediction. At the end of February more accurate prediction will be made investigating buds. Looking forward to it! 🙂

It will be very high season for tourist, so don’t forget to book your accommodation in advance!
